This camera had been out of order more than a year after a long way drive. It was carried along the way with it's camera bag, no any drop, no any impact. One day morning, it supposed to work for normal shoot, however the lens has problem with no retraction, few more try and replaced the battery, it could resume to works but the auto focus was no long in phase.
Shooting seems fine but the the picture had no longer clear, out of focus all the way, how bad was when shooting is a must. below was the last picture taken by this abnormal SONY camera.
No intention to bring it to SONY repairing service just only because after the warranty, the cost would be high enough to buy another new camera, and then, it puts underneath for nothing but storage.
Last Friday, shooting at west coast of the Taiwan island, near by the MaiLiao, strong wind blew the Ricoh R7 off from the tri-stands, no broken but the lens assembly had a little problem with friction. It makes myself to fix these both, or we will have no working cameras for traveling next week.
How and Why? need to think it about the causes and problems -
For the Ricoh R7, it was obvious the drop / impact provided the problem, it was easy and fixed.
For the SONY DSC-H1, no any clue to know why, but simple thinking could results a goods speculation for cause finding, it can turn on / shoot / off, only problem it is focusing, perhaps the lens assembly with mechanical jam, or something loosen inside the lens, or may be the electronic actuator for focus and it's drive does not work properly. Try to repair this dead unit instead pay for it, will has no lost even it can not be fixed.
before open this malfunction unit, better to memory what is looks-like, to prevent memory lost or no way to assemble it back to the good shape. Loosen those silver like cross-head screws, the housing will be detacched.
The first piece of back housing is opened, very modulated design, easy and clean
Lossen the another screws, the LCD can be detacthed
The next, it is about the buttons-pad
Disconnect the Flex-PCB from the edge connector, the buttons-pad can be removed.
Just for coriuose to reveal the main broad of control unit, but it is not nesscessary.

Lens module is able to off from the front housing
To ensure no gear chain jam by makes the lens retract, there has simple but effective way to do that. As many lens module design will has one motor for gear-chain drive, it is DC motor with encoder or home sensor, simply connects this motor to the 3V battery, it will makes this motor turns and then the lens assembly will be extends or retracts, depends on the polarity, RED-BLACK wires vs the contact of the motor, experiment this will no harms to the lens assembly. there has another motor, usually a stepping motor for focal drive, need specific driver circuit to make it turns.
when the lens assembly had been retraced, free to go with disassemble and fix the lens problem if it is pure mechanical jam or whatever non-electronics malfuntion. Un-cover the image sensor first.
Once opened the lens housing, observed that one lens slip aways, it was supposed not to happen as any lens should be secure with the lens housing, perhaps we found the problem here.
Further to reveal the actual position of this lens has to be, X-Y movement is able to positioned by to voice-coils, they are actuators and suspended by two pairs of strong magnet with ball bearing support. There is a stepping motor for focal drive inside the lens housing, no touch for this one.
Fix this lens back, dip the hot-melt glue with iron, simple but effective. The only matter is how to clean the lens as many finger prints after the fix, alcohol & Cotton swabs can do the jobs, not the professional way but it works.
Re-assemble back all stuff from piece to piece. then........test shoots. OK, it works and the crap is fixed. As far as I can say, this product & such failure are very bad in term of quality control for the lens assembly like this. How could SONY sale the crap like this in a considerable selling price, intends to prove their customers are idiots enough and then pay for repairing charge?!
